When the heat ramps up, the last thing you want is your HVAC system struggling to keep up. That’s why prepping your system ahead of time can make a big difference. Whether you’re trying to avoid an unexpected breakdown, lower your energy bills, or just stay comfortable, these summer HVAC tips can help.
1. Schedule a Summer HVAC Tune-Up A summer tune-up is not a nice-to-have, it is one of the most important steps to keeping your system running efficiently. A seasonal check-up can catch small issues before they snowball, and it’s a smart way to help avoid problems like frozen coils or a system that suddenly stops working in the midst of a heatwave.
If you’re enrolled in MintCare, your summer tune-up is already included. We handle everything from system inspections to cleaning and performance checks. You’ll also get reminders when it’s time to schedule, so you don’t have to think about it twice.
2. Change Your Air Filters (Or Let MintCare Handle It)
A clogged filter puts extra strain on your system, restricts airflow, and can lead to weak performance or even freezing up.
With MintCare, you don’t need to worry about keeping track of filter changes, we include two filter replacements every year as a part of your membership. It’s a small detail, but one that makes a difference.
3. Clean the Outdoor Condenser Unit
Your outdoor unit needs breathing room to work properly. Over time, dirt, grass, leaves, and other things can build up around the condenser and block airflow. These blockages force your system to work harder, and can shorten its lifespan.
Clearing the area around your unit and gently rinsing with a garden host can help. For deeper cleanings or if you’re unsure if you need one, our techs can inspect during your MintCare visit.
4. Check Your Thermostat Settings
Sometimes, efficiency comes down to the basics. Set your thermostat to a consistent moderate temperature and adjust it to a few degrees higher when you’re away. A smart thermostat can help automate this and prevent your system from constantly cycling on and off. To learn more about summer thermostat settings read one of our latest blogs.
5. Inspect Vents and Ductwork
Make sure all your vents are open and unobstructed. It sounds simple, but even one blocked vent behind a couch or rug can reduce your system’s effectiveness and lead to uneven cooling.
If you’ve noticed certain rooms stay warmer than others, it might be time for a duct inspection. Leaky or poorly insulated ducts are often the culprit, and fixing them can improve home comfort and cut down on wasted energy.
6. Flush the Condensate Drain Line
When your AC runs, it pulls moisture from the air. That water drains out through a thin pipe called the condensate line. If that line gets clogged, it can back up, leak, or even cause your system to shut down.
During MintCare tune-ups we will make sure to detect issues like this before they become bigger.
